Central Java (Indonesian: Provinsi Jawa Tengah) is a province of Indonesia. It forms the middle portion of the island of Java. The administrative capital is Semarang.
The province is 39,800.69 km2 in area; approximately a quarter of the total land area of Java. Its population was 30,380,687 at the 2010 Census, making it the third most-populous province in Indonesia after West Java and East Java.
Central Java is also a cultural concept that includes the Special Region and city of Yogyakarta as well as the Province of Central Java. However, administratively the city and its surrounding region has been part of a separate special region since Indonesian independence.
